Tripura girl fights child marriage; Tribal Welfare Minister praises efforts

Agartala May 22: Setting an example for many, Jyotsna Akhtar, a 10th standard student from a minority family of Amjad Nagar High School in Belonia sub-division played a brave role in preventing child marriage.
The girl stood against the decision of her parents of getting her married and strongly expressed her desire of studying further and standing on own feet.
Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Shukla Charan Noatia visited the residence of the girl and praised her efforts for taking a brave role in preventing child marriage.
According to reports, South Tripura district already records highest rate of child marriage and therefore the state administration has taken various initiatives to stop child marriage. One among such efforts is Balika Manch with girl students in state government schools.
Taking help of this Balika Manch and administrative officials, Jyotsna Akhtar stopped her own marriage.
Learning about the incident, State Tribal Welfare Minister Shukla Charan Noatia visited Jyotsna Akhtar’s house on Monday. MLA Sapna Majumder, BJP State IT Cell In-charge Chandan Debnath, 37 BJP south district committee general secretary Dwaipayan Choudhury among others accompanied the minister.
The minister exchanged views with the locals of the area and awared them about the laws related to child marriage while praising the brave effort of 10th standard student Jyotsna Akhtar.
He also assured the family of Jyotsna Akhtar of all sorts of government support.
