The Tripura state government has unveiled its official holiday calendar for 2026, bringing festive cheer to government employees with the inclusion of two additional holidays.
Â
The announcement, made under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, ensures that major cultural celebrations will be observed without compromise.
Â
According to the calendar, Lakshmi Puja will be celebrated on October 25, 2026, which coincides with a Sunday. To allow employees to mark the occasion with their families, the government has declared October 26 (Monday) as a compensatory holiday.
Â
Similarly, Diwali falls on November 8, 2026, also a Sunday. In recognition of the importance of the festival, the government has announced November 9 (Monday) as an official holiday.
Â
Officials noted that the decision reflects the administration’s sensitivity to cultural traditions and its effort to maintain a healthy work–life balance for employees. By adjusting the calendar, the government has ensured that no major festival celebration is curtailed due to overlapping with weekly holidays.
Â
The move has been widely welcomed by government staff, who see it as a thoughtful gesture that acknowledges the significance of family time during festivals. It also underscores the Chief Minister’s emphasis on welfare-oriented governance, blending administrative efficiency with cultural respect.
Â
Observers point out that such initiatives strengthen the bond between governance and community life, reinforcing the message that development is not only about infrastructure but also about nurturing traditions and values.
