The Tripura Government has allocated around 30 acres of land at Sekerkote for setting up a proposed cricket academy, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Sunday.
Speaking at the annual award distribution ceremony of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), the Chief Minister said the initiative is aimed at strengthening cricket infrastructure and creating greater opportunities for nurturing sporting talent in the state.
“Cricket is a game of immense passion, enthusiasm and emotion. Keeping this spirit in mind, the Tripura Cricket Association is undertaking various initiatives to promote the sport, develop infrastructure and nurture talented players,” Dr. Saha said.
He said the state government remains committed to providing greater opportunities and facilities to the younger generation through sports.
The Chief Minister also said that construction of the international-standard cricket stadium at Narsingarh is nearing completion.
He expressed hope that improved sporting infrastructure would provide cricketers from Tripura with greater opportunities to develop their skills and create a conducive environment for them to compete at national and international levels.
Dr. Saha congratulated the players, who received various awards, and others honoured at the programme, saying that recognition of their achievements would encourage them to work harder and inspire them to achieve greater success in the future.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy called for expanding opportunities and facilities for players from rural areas and stressed the need to make greater use of technology in sports.
Referring to Tripura's Asmita Dey, who has represented the country and achieved success on the international stage, the Sports Minister encouraged young players to set clear goals and work towards achieving them.
Officials of the Tripura Cricket Association and players from different parts of the state were present at the programme.
