Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said that his government is committed to preserving the rich culture and tradition of Janajati communities.
He was speaking at the vibrant Wangala Festival of Garo community at Natin Tilla in Gomati district’s Udaipur.Â
According to the Chief Minister, nearly 700 Janajati groups reside across India and Tripura is home to 19 Janajati communities, each with its own rich legacy.
"The state government is taking targeted initiatives to preserve and promote these cultural traditions," the Chief Minister said, according to a press release.Â
The event was organized jointly by the Department of Information & Cultural Affairs, Udaipur Sub-Divisional Administration, and the Tripura Garo Union.
Highlighting the government’s development efforts, Dr. Saha said both the Central and State governments are working with a vision of transforming Tripura and contributing to a progressive India.
He underscored the administration’s ongoing efforts in improving education, roads, drinking water supply, healthcare, and other essential infrastructure.
The Chief Minister also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to declare the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagwan Bir Birsa Munda as Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas.
Speaking about the Wangala Festival, Dr. Saha described it as one of the most significant celebrations of the Garo community—an event that serves as a cultural bridge among different groups.
Later he mentioned on social media, “Delighted to inaugurate the vibrant Wangala Festival at Natin Tilla in Udaipur, Gomati District. This celebration is a remarkable reflection of the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and community spirit of our Garo brothers and sisters.
