Tripura Govt committed to providing necessary facilities, support to doctors: CM

The Tripura government remains committed to providing necessary facilities and support to the doctors, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reiterated on Saturday.

He was speaking at the National Doctors’ Day celebration, organized by the Health and Family Welfare Department at Prajna Bhavan.

Referring to the government’s recent decision regarding ban on private practice by the doctors working at AGMC and GBP Hospital, Dr. Saha said the circular prohibiting private practice for government doctors had existed for many years but was never effectively implemented.

He stated that the present government aims to bring greater transparency to healthcare services and departmental functioning.

“The decision was announced after discussions with doctors’ associations and consideration of their views,” the Chief Minister noted.

The Chief Minister emphasized the crucial role of doctors in building a healthy society and a strong nation, urging medical professionals to follow the ideals of renowned physician and administrator Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.

He said, doctors should draw inspiration from Dr. Roy’s professional excellence, integrity, ethical values, and disciplined lifestyle while serving society.

“Recognition and respect in society can only be earned through responsible and dedicated service,” he said.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need for wider use of teleconsultation services to reduce treatment costs and save time for patients. He said the government’s priority is to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and ensure quality medical services at affordable costs.

Highlighting recent achievements in the health sector, Dr. Saha said the number of patients being referred outside the state for treatment has declined significantly. He also added that the government is focusing on developing advanced healthcare facilities not only in the capital but also across districts and sub-divisions.

He further revealed that initiatives would be taken in the future to introduce liver and heart transplant facilities in the state. He also stated that Tripura has achieved 100 percent success in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).

Speaking on the legacy of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the Chief Minister described him as an outstanding physician and administrator whose contributions continue to inspire generations.

“With the cooperation of people from all sections of society, we can build a new and healthy Tripura,” he said.

In his welcome address, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the department to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state. He said the department is continuously working to improve access to quality medical services.

Among others present at the event were Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Dr. Anjan Das, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College Dr. Tapan Majumdar, Principal of TMC and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Teaching Hospital Prof. Dr. Arindam Dutta, and Principal of Agartala Government Dental College Dr. Shalu Roy.

As part of the programme, ten retired doctors were felicitated for their contributions to the medical profession, while seven doctors were honoured with awards for their outstanding service in various fields of healthcare.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Health Department Director Dr. Debashree Debbarma.
