Agartala, Dec 05: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said the state government is strengthening the Fire and Emergency Services department with advanced technologies and equipment.
After inaugurating the new building of Tripura Fire and Emergency Services Training School at Badharghat, he said, modernization of the Fire Service department is going on across the state. He also launched a basic training programme for Civil Defence volunteers on fire rescue.
Meanwhile, fire fighting and rescue technologies like jumping cushion, underwater diving suit, fire ball, ultra high pressure mini fire tender, selectable flow nozzle, plastic rescue stretcher have already been introduced in the fire service department. The new building of the training school spread over 2.19 acres of land has been built at the cost of Rs. 3.18 crore.
“If needed, the building and the area will be expanded in future”, the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister lauded the role of the Fire Service personnel and said they play an important role in saving people's lives and properties in case of any fire incident or disaster.
He said, “the firefighters are doing a commendable job in all emergencies, be it an accident, natural disaster or any fire incident.”
He said, the presence of Fire Service personnel gives us hope even during an unfortunate situation. The Chief Minister urged to include training on providing first aid besides providing training on rescue operations.
Minister for Fire and Emergency Services- Ram Prasad Paul, local MLA Mimi Majumdar and Secretary of Fire and Emergency Services department- Apurba Roy also spoke on the occasion. The welcome speech was delivered by Special Secretary of the department Anindya Kumar Bhattacharjee. Joint Director Debjani Deb was also present.
The Chief Minister also released a booklet on achievements of the department over the past four and half years. A documentary was also shown by the Fire and Emergency Services department in the programme. After the inauguration, a mock drill was also exercised on disaster management.
Meanwhile, the fire fighters attended as many as 5004 fire calls and 9791 special calls in four years (2018-2021) and saved 12,928 human lives and properties worth Rs. 170.20 crore, according to the booklet.
In the programme, three firefighters- Debashis Shil, Dilip Tripura and Babul Miah, who sustained burn injuries in the line of duty during a fire incident at Sabroom recently and are now under treatment, and other Fire Service personnel were awarded for their excellence in service. On behalf of Fireman Debashis Shil, his wife Dipa Shil received the honour.
