Tripura govt sets target to grow Oil Palm in 530 hectares of land in current FY

Agartala, Oct 31: Tripura government has set a target to cultivate Oil Palm in 530 hectares of land across the state in the current financial year, secretary of Horticulture department- Apurba Roy said on Monday.
He said, the state government already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two implementing agencies for the oil palm cultivation under the National Mission on Edible Oils- Oil Palm (NMEO-OP).
The Secretary also said, under the financial assistance of NEC, farmers of 12 blocks in eight districts would be given assistance for dragon fruit cultivation. As a result, 50 hectares of land would come under dragon fruit cultivation. The NEC already sanctioned Rs. 81.90 lakh. He said, 1120 farmers of the state are growing dragon fruit in 112 hectares of land at present.
Speaking to the media, he also said, as many as 1,93,044 families were given assistance for fruit cultivation under Mukhyamantri Swanirbhar Parivar Yojana in the current financial year. Besides, 2 lakh families were given assistance for vegetable cultivation.
He said, more one lakh families would be brought under Mukhyamantri Swanirbhar Parivaar Yojana in the next financial year.
Along with the secretary, other officials of the Agriculture and Horticulture department were also present in the press conference.
