Agartala, Apr 25: The Tripura government took multi-faceted plans to strengthen the Tourism sector so that it can be transformed into a source of an alternative economy, Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, he said, the government already introduced various facilities and activities at Jampui Hills, Dumboor Lake and Chabimura to make adventure tourism popular.
Highlighting the achievements and future plans of the Tourism department, Chowdhury also said, under Swadesh Darshan Scheme-I, various development works in 11 tourist locations are almost nearing completion.
The central government sanctioned Rs. 82,84,74,000 under Swadesh Darshan Scheme and Rs. 73,74,57,000 has already been spend—the work progress is 97 percent, he said.
Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme-II, the central government sanctioned total Rs. 50.38 crore and development of Surmacherra Water Falls in Kamalpur, Abhangcherra Park in Jolaibari, Bharat-Bangladesh Maitri Udyan in Belonia, Neermahal in Melaghar, Buddhist Stupa in Boxonagar and Jampui Hills has already been undertaken to make them more attractive.
Besides, under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive– PRASAD scheme, a major initiative has been taken to transform Mata Tripura Sundari Temple into a world-class spiritual tourism site. The central government has sanctioned Rs. 37.80 crore under this project.
The Tourism department is emphasizing on constructing Log Huts in various spots to attract the visitors. Chowdhury said, three Log Huts in Ambassa, 5 in Barmura Eco Park, 5 in Sepahijala, 3 in Tepania Eco Park and 15 in Narkelkunja have already been introduced. Besides, works for 18 more Log Huts, 8 in Narkelkunja and 10 in Chabimura, are underway.
Sharing details on more achievements and plans of the Tourism department, Chowdhury said, the Asian Development Bank agreed to sanction loan of around Rs. 180 crore for Tripura for development of infrastructures in various tourist spots.
Secretary of Tourism department U.K. Chakma and Director Tapan Kumar Das were also present in the press conference.
