Tripura govt to distribute spices through PDS: Sushanta

Agartala, May 14: In an attempt to further strengthen the Public Distribution System (PDS), the Tripura government has decided to distribute different types of spies through Fair Price shops. The facility will formally be launched by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan on May 16 next.
“Packaged spies of Longtharai like chilly, turmeric, Jeera and Dhaniya will be available in all of the 2050 Ration shops so that every household can buy spies at a subsidized rate”, said Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. He said, Longtharai was selected for the task through ‘tender’. The decision was taken in a preparatory meeting chaired by Chowdhury on Sunday.
The Minister also said, during the inauguration of the facility on May 16, the Chief Minister handed over packaged spies to eight beneficiaries of the 8 districts. The initiative will benefit 9 lakh ration card holders of the State. He also said, Government will include several other essentials like Mustard Oil etc, apart from the four types of spices for distribution through the PDS.
Secretary of the Food.PDS and Consumers’ Affairs Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Director Nirmal Adhikari, Additional Director Animesh Debbarma, Director of the Information & Cultural Affairs Department Bimbisaar Bhattacharjee, Owner of the Longtharai Ratan Debnath and others were present in today’s meeting.
