Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday said that the spirit of unity in diversity remains strong in Tripura, which has helped the state earn recognition across the country.
Addressing a public programme at Fatikroy in Unakoti district in the presence of Sports Minister Tinku Roy and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, the Chief Minister said the state government is working on multiple fronts to preserve and promote the cultural heritage and traditions of the Janajati communities.
The Chief Minister also urged students to embrace ethics and values in education. He said that the education gained by students should be used for the welfare of society and the country. Only then will today’s students be able to develop themselves as human beings in their future lives.
Dr. Saha said this after inaugurating the new two-storey building of P.M.-SHRI Hajibari Class XII School in the Fatikroy Assembly area today. Before joining the programme, he laid foundation stone for a bridge over the Manu River at Fatikroy. Dr. Saha also inaugurated a four-day Milan Mela at Fatokroy school ground.Â
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister noted that efforts are being made to revive the role and dignity of Samajpatis by providing them with honorariums. In this context, he also criticised previous governments, stating that such initiatives were absent earlier.
Highlighting key infrastructure projects, the Dr. Saha stressed the importance of improved connectivity between different regions.Â
He announced that a new bridge connecting Saidarpara and Saradapalli (Kumarghat) will be constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs. 12 crore. Once completed, the bridge is expected to strengthen communication between urban and rural areas and bring positive changes in trade and business activities, he said.
Referring to the inauguration of the new building at Hajibari School, Saha reiterated the government’s commitment to development in the education sector and overall infrastructure growth. He said the government is working relentlessly from morning till night for the development of the state.
The Chief Minister alleged that despite continuous development efforts, certain sections remain critical of the government’s initiatives. Without naming anyone directly, he hinted at the opposition, accusing them of indulging in criticism instead of constructive engagement.
Dr. Saha maintained that the state government will continue to focus on inclusive development, cultural preservation and infrastructure expansion for the benefit of all sections of society.
He said that Tripura is also ahead in women’s safety.
“Women can now move around in a fear-free environment even at night. In the whole country, Tripura’s crime rate has significantly dropped. This is development,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha further said that technology is being used in the education system in the state and initiatives have been taken to make education easily accessible to students through Personalized Adaptive Learning (P.A.L.).
“This is part of the National Education Policy programme. Education is a path from darkness to light. We want healthy competition among schools in the field of education. Tripura has now come a long way in higher education infrastructure. There are many universities in the state, both government and private. The number of seats in medical colleges has been increased, and another medical college is being opened in Ambassa. Forensic University and Law University have been established. As a result, the tendency to go outside the state for higher education has decreased. Along with revamping the education system, we are trying to educate students in moral values,” he said.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Unakoti Zila Parishad President Amalendu Das, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, Superintendent of Police Sudambika R., Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Chairman Sumati Das, and others.
