Agartala Aug 6: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party backed Ainjeebi Unnayan Mancha bagged majority in Tripura High Court Bar Association polls defeating ‘Save Democracy Forum’ - a panel jointly supported by the Left and Congress. The poll was held on Saturday.
Earlier, polling for the 11-member High Court bar association started early in the morning. Among the 214 eligible voters, 199 voters cast their votes during the polls. The polling continued till 2:30 in the afternoon and results were declared in the late evening.
The candidate of Save Democracy Forum for the post of president, Advocate Puroshattam Roy Barman emerged victorious while for the vice president’s post, Ainjeebi Unnayan Mancha candidate Advocate Haradhan Sarkar won.
The post of Secretary went to the Manch candidate Advocate Pranabasish Majumder while Manch and Forum candidates – Advocate Sumit Debnath and Advocate Sougat Datta - jointly bagged the Assistant Secretary post.
The post of Treasurer was won by Manch candidate Arjun Acharjee.
In total, there were 11 seats – of these, five are Executive posts and six others are ‘members’.
Out of the five executive posts, Manch won in 4 seats and Forum in 2 seats (including the jointly bagged post of Assistant General Secretary).
For the remaining six ‘members’ posts, Manch and Forum bagged three each. In the member posts, Advocate Ankan Tilak Paul, Advocate Anujit Dey, advocate Kawsik Nath, advocate Riya Chakraborty, advocate Sagar Banik and advocate Saikat Saha emerged victorious.
What came as a shocker for the Congress party is that the independent candidate for the post of President, Amrit Lal Saha, received only seven votes in his favor.
Meantime, celebrations broke out on the Court premises as soon as the results were declared and all the candidates who emerged victorious were seen congratulating each other after the announcement of the results.
