Tripura Health University to begin soon: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday announced that the proposed Health University would soon begin functioning in the state, with the advertisement for the appointment of its Vice-Chancellor to be issued shortly. 

He said, a bill for setting up the Tripura University of Health Sciences has already been passed in the state assembly. 

Addressing the foundation day programme of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govinda Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital, the Chief Minister urged healthcare professionals to move beyond conventional practices by embracing technology to further strengthen healthcare delivery. He also highlighted the state's recent achievements and the introduction of new healthcare services. 

Dr. Saha stressed the need to develop modern infrastructure at GBP Hospital and described AGMC and GBP Hospital as more than just healthcare institutions. 

"Besides healthcare, Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital is a centre of humanitarian service, learning, research, and human values. The institution has earned a strong reputation across the Northeast region," he said. 

The Chief Minister also pointed out that the number of patients being referred outside the state for treatment has declined by nearly 80 per cent over the past few years. He attributed this significant achievement to the collective efforts of doctors, healthcare workers, and the continuous improvement of medical services in Tripura. 

Congratulating the doctors, hospital officials, medical staff, and students on the foundation day, Dr. Saha said their dedication has played a key role in strengthening the state's healthcare system. Outstanding medical students were also honoured with awards in different categories during the programme. 

A major highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Agartala Government Medical College and Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Viveknagar. The partnership is expected to strengthen collaboration in education, service-oriented activities, and holistic human development. 

The MoU was signed by Swami Subhakarananda Maharaj on behalf of Ramakrishna Math and Mission and Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumdar, Principal of AGMC. 

In a gesture of solidarity with flood-affected people in neighbouring Assam, the All Tripura Government Doctors Association (ATGDA) donated Rs. 1 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of Assam. The cheque was handed over to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha by ATGDA officials during the programme. 

The event was attended by chairperson of Rogi Kalyan Samity, GBP Hospital Mina Rani Sarkar, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Swami Subhakarananda Maharaj, NHM Tripura Mission Director Saju Vaheed A, and other senior officials of the Health Department.
