Tripura launches AI-powered system to monitor schools, learning outcomes

In a major step towards data-driven educational governance, the School Education Department of Tripura has rolled out a comprehensive Online School Inspection and Continuous Student Assessment system, marking a significant transformation in the way schools are monitored and academic progress is tracked across the State.

The technology-enabled initiative, conceptualised under the guidance of Dr. Milind Ramteke, IAS, Secretary, School Education Department, and spearheaded by the Director of Elementary Education, who also serves as Director of Secondary Education and State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Dr Samit Roy Chowdhury seeks to establish a transparent, accountable and evidence-based mechanism for improving learning outcomes in government schools under School Education Department.

This will bring a major change in the Elementary Education to strengthen the basic of the students of Primary level.

The entire system is integrated with the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK), allowing education administrators to monitor school inspections and students' learning progress through a live digital dashboard. Officials at the State, district and block levels will now be able to access real-time data, identify learning gaps, review institutional performance and initiate timely academic interventions.

To ensure seamless implementation, the Department has scheduled a virtual hands-on training programme tomorrow for District Education Officers (DEOs), District MIS Coordinators and NIPUN Coordinators. The resource persons will train District Education Officers , NIPUN Coordinators and MIS coordinators to navigate the dashboard and effectively use district-, block- and school-level analytics for informed decision-making.. The DMs of eight district will also be given access to this dashboard so that they can take timely intervention.

Earlier, in the month of June ,,the NIPUN Cell of the Directorate of Elementary Education successfully organised extensive hands-on training for all Block Resource Persons (BRPs) and Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs) and Inspector of Schools across the State on the online inspection and assessment modules. These field-level academic functionaries are now leading the implementation of the programme in schools.

According to departmental sources, the digital platform introduces a robust accountability framework. The quality and frequency of school inspections conducted by BRPs and CRPs will be monitored through the online system. Officials demonstrating exemplary performance are proposed to be recognised, while those requiring improvement will receive mentoring and counselling to strengthen their field performance.

The Continuous Student Assessment module is expected to provide teachers and administrators with timely information on students' learning progress. The data generated through the platform will help identify children requiring additional academic support and facilitate targeted interventions. Where learning outcomes remain consistently below expected levels over successive assessment cycles, the Department may recommend need-based professional development programmes through SCERT for the concerned teachers.

Education officials believe that the integration of digital technology with academic supervision will enable continuous monitoring, evidence-based planning and timely corrective measures. 

The initiative is expected to strengthen classroom practices, improve institutional accountability and contribute significantly to enhancing the quality of school education across Tripura.

The introduction of the digital inspection and assessment ecosystem reflects the State Government's growing emphasis on technology-enabled governance and outcome-based educational reforms, with the ultimate objective of ensuring better learning opportunities for every child.
