Tripura launches district-level Road Safety Awareness Drive: Minister Sushanta Chowdhury calls for responsible road use

tripura launches district-level road safety awareness drive minister sushanta chowdhury calls for responsible road use

With the message “Safe Roads, Safe Lives” at its core, Tripura has intensified efforts to curb road accidents through awareness and sensitisation programmes.

On Tuesday, the West Tripura district administration and the Transport Department jointly organised a District-Level Road Safety Awareness and Sensitisation Programme at the State Guest House, Sonar Tori, formally inaugurated by Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

Lighting the ceremonial lamp, Chowdhury emphasised that road safety cannot be achieved through law enforcement alone—it requires public awareness, responsibility, and mutual empathy.

He reminded citizens that every life on the road is precious, urging drivers to follow traffic rules, respect speed limits, wear helmets and seatbelts, avoid driving under the influence, and act responsibly towards pedestrians.

Chowdhury stated, “Let us all be more responsible and sensitive in using the roads. Alongside our own safety, we must value the lives of others. Conscious drivers and responsible pedestrians together will build safe roads and a safer tomorrow.”

The programme brought together officials from the administration, police, and transport departments, who collectively stressed the importance of community participation in road safety. Discussions focused on preventing accidents, ensuring safe vehicle movement, and strengthening public awareness campaigns.

Special emphasis was placed on sensitising citizens to the dangers of reckless driving and the need for behavioural change. The initiative aims to build a culture where safety is seen as a shared responsibility, not just an individual choice.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge: “Safe Roads, Safe Lives—our collective commitment for a secure future.”
