Tripura LoP accuses BJP-led Govt of stripping rights in villages and hills

Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury leveled sharp allegations against the BJP-led state government during the Left Front’s Jail Bharo agitation on Monday. 

Addressing supporters, Choudhury claimed that under the so-called “double engine government,” the rights of people in villages and hill areas have been systematically curtailed, while employment opportunities for youth have been eroded.

He alleged that even the traditional rights of jhum cultivators have been taken away, leaving communities in despair. “In several parts of the state, frustration and helplessness have reached such levels that shocking incidents like children being sold have come to light,” Choudhury said, painting a grim picture of rural and tribal distress.

The Opposition leader further accused government departments of functioning under a “regime of loot,” asserting that corruption and mismanagement have worsened the plight of ordinary citizens. He argued that the day’s agitation was necessary to warn the government and press for immediate steps to resolve people’s problems.

Chaudhury also linked the protest to a broader struggle against authoritarian tendencies, saying, “When rulers turn despotic, citizens are compelled to take the path of civil disobedience.” He reminded supporters that August is historically a month of struggle and sacrifice, urging them to intensify the movement.

According to Chaudhury, the Jail Bharo agitation was not confined to Agartala alone but was being staged simultaneously in nearly 20 locations across Tripura, reflecting widespread discontent. 

He called for strengthening the movement further in defense of people’s rights and demands, insisting that the CPI(M) would continue to stand by the marginalized until their voices are heard.
