tripura marks 11th ayurveda day with awareness rally push for expansion of traditional medicine

The 11th Ayurveda Day was observed in state with a spirited awareness rally through the streets of Agartala, aimed at spreading knowledge about the ancient system of medicine and its relevance in modern times.

Senior officials, health workers, and members of the public joined the march, underscoring the state’s commitment to promoting Ayurveda as a holistic approach to health and wellness.

The rally was led by Saju Wahid, Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), alongside West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and officials from the Health Department.

Addressing participants, Wahid said this year’s observance carried special significance for Tripura, as the state has initiated steps to establish its first Ayurvedic Medical College from the current academic session. He added that efforts were also underway to set up a Homeopathic Medical College, reflecting the government’s broader push to diversify healthcare education.

Wahid explained that the purpose of Ayurveda Day was not only to celebrate the tradition but also to revive and modernise the practice in line with contemporary needs. He stressed the importance of evidence‑based medicine and called upon Ayurvedic doctors, pharmacists, lab technicians, and healthcare professionals to play a more active role in advancing the discipline.

Speaking at the event, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar highlighted Ayurveda’s wider philosophy of healthy living. He said the system teaches how to maintain a disciplined lifestyle by using natural resources and everyday elements to achieve wellness. In the context of rising pollution and the side effects of modern drugs, Kumar emphasised the growing importance of natural and health‑conscious practices. He urged that education and awareness about Ayurveda must reach all sections of society.

Kumar also pointed to initiatives being taken both by the Central Government and the state administration to popularise Ayurveda through education, research, and awareness programmes. He thanked NHM and the Ayurveda Department officials for organising the rally and associated events.

The day’s programme included a public rally and fair, where participants engaged with displays and discussions on Ayurveda’s role in preventive health, lifestyle management, and sustainable living. The event reflected Tripura’s efforts to integrate traditional medicine into mainstream healthcare while encouraging citizens to adopt healthier, more natural practices.
