The prolonged search for a missing health worker ended in tragedy on Sunday morning when the body of Jiban Choudhury was recovered from the waters of the Dumboor reservoir.
Choudhury had been missing since the night of Vishwakarma Puja, sparking days of concern and search operations.
Local residents first spotted the body floating in the reservoir at dawn and immediately alerted the authorities. Police and emergency personnel rushed to the site, recovered the remains, and sent them for post‑mortem examination. Following completion of the medical procedures, the body was handed over to the family.
While the recovery has brought closure to the search, the circumstances surrounding Choudhury’s death remain unclear. Police have launched an investigation to determine how the health worker ended up in the reservoir and what led to his demise.
The incident has cast a deep shadow of grief over Choudhury’s family, colleagues, and the wider community. Residents of the area, already shaken by his disappearance, expressed sorrow and disbelief at the tragic outcome.
Authorities said further clarity would emerge once the investigation and post‑mortem findings are complete.
