Tripura: MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury announces modern drainage project to end waterlogging

The long-standing problem of waterlogging in Kalyanpur market is finally being addressed through the construction of a modern, scientifically designed covered drainage system, a project that local MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury says will not only ease public suffering but also transform Kalyanpur into a planned “mini city.”

For years, even light rainfall left large parts of the market submerged, disrupting trade, daily life, and pedestrian movement. Traders, customers, and residents endured severe hardship, with monsoon seasons turning the market into a flood zone. To end this recurring misery, authorities have launched a permanent solution — a drainage project that includes covered drains, culverts, and proper linkages to ensure fast and efficient water discharge.

Speaking about the initiative, MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury said, “This project was taken up to end the long-standing public suffering. But it is not just about drains — it is about building a modern, organised Kalyanpur where infrastructure, cleanliness, and planned growth will strengthen livelihoods and the local economy. More development projects will follow to make Kalyanpur a truly modern town.”

Officials confirmed that if work continues as scheduled, the project will be completed within the next few months. Once finished, the market environment is expected to become cleaner, healthier, and more conducive to business. 

Local traders and residents welcomed the move, noting that beyond solving drainage issues, the initiative will enhance the town’s image, attract more commerce, and improve living standards.

Residents believe that with improved infrastructure and a cleaner environment, Kalyanpur will emerge as a hub of business expansion and community growth. The MLA assured that development will continue in phases, always prioritising the needs of ordinary citizens.
