Tripura West Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has brought relief to a family in Ramnagar, Agartala, by ensuring financial assistance of Rs 50,000 from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the advanced medical treatment of Soham Paul.
The sanction was formally conveyed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to the Director of Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata, through a letter dated September 7, 2026.
The grant has been approved in principle to partially meet Soham’s treatment expenses, with the PMO clarifying that the admissible assistance will be restricted to 50 per cent of the expenditure incurred or the sanctioned amount, whichever is lower, subject to prescribed conditions.
Reacting to the development, Deb expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the swift sanction. “I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, for sanctioning medical assistance of ₹50,000 from the PMNRF to Shri Soham Pal,” Deb said.
He explained that once the matter concerning Soham’s urgent requirement for advanced medical treatment was brought to his attention, he immediately forwarded the application to the PMNRF. The sanction, he noted, was approved within a short period, reflecting the Prime Minister’s sympathetic approach to such appeals.
Deb further recalled that the Prime Minister has in the past also responded positively to requests for financial assistance for patients requiring costly medical interventions, underscoring the PMNRF’s role as a lifeline for families in distress.
The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, established to provide immediate relief to families affected by calamities and medical emergencies, continues to play a crucial role in supporting citizens facing life-threatening health challenges.
In Tripura, several patients have benefitted from PMNRF assistance in recent years, highlighting the fund’s impact at the grassroots level.
