Agartala Jan 19: Honoring the day when Kokborok became officially recognized for the first time in the year 1979, Kokborok Day or Tripuri Language Day was celebrated with due dignity in Tripura.
Tripura State Academy of Tribal Culture under Tribal Research and Cultural Institute, Tripura organized a colourful rally in the heart of capital city to commemorate Philbrwichiba, 45th Kokborok Sal, 2023.
Speaking to the reporters in this context, Dasarath Debbarma, Director Kokborok ans other Minority languages said, “On January 19, the entire state of Tripura celebrates Kokborok Day with the goal of fostering the Kokborok language. This day honours the year 1979 when Kokborok became officially recognized for the first time”.
Kokborok represents; “Borok” as people and “Kok” as language, the native tongue of Tripura is Kokborok also known as Tripuri whose earlier name was Tiprakok/Tripurikok.
Debbarma added, “Through the "Kokborok tei Hukumu Mission," numerous government and non-government organizations are working tirelessly to advance the Kokborok language, art, literature, films, and music”.
“Also, the Kokborok language is now being taught in public schools, colleges, and universities as part of an initiative to promote it”, he added.
At least 12 schools and 6 colleges participated in the day’s rally that started from Rabindra Satabarshiki premises and covered several prime routes of the capital city.
