Tripura Police busts chain-snatching racket, five held

Agartala, Nov 15: Tripura Police busted a chain-snatching gang and arrested five persons in this connection, an officer said on Tuesday.
Ttwo youths- Amrit Roy and Sagar Nama, both habitual drug addicts and residents of North Anandanagar under Srinagar police station, were first arrested on Monday night for their involvement in chain snatching incidents in the city, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sadar- Ajoy Kumar Das said.
Some stolen gold chains were also recovered by police.
“After interrogation, we picked up two more persons- Amaresh Chakraborty and Mintu Das, an employee, who used to purchase the stolen gold items and take loan from Manappuram Gold Loan without any document and verification,” the SDPO told reporters.
Another person- Riman Chakraborty, a resident of Santirbazar in South Tripura and staff of the Manappuram Gold Loan, who used to give loan against the stolen items, was also arrested.
The SDPO said, the Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala police station supervised the operation carried out by Sub Inspectors- Abhijit Mandal, Ranjit Das and Mamumullah Kaji.
“All five arrested persons will be produced before the court. We are trying to reach out to the root of the network,” the police officer said.
