Agartala Jan 28: Congress fielded candidates to fight in 17 assembly constituencies out of 60-member Tripura assembly in view of the ensuing 2023 assembly polls slated to be held on February 16, next.
The announcement was made on Friday afternoon, through a press release issued by AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik shortly after the ruling BJP announced its candidate list for 48 seats.
The list includes; 2-Mohanpur – Prashanta Sen Choudhury, 4-Barjala(SC) Sista Mohan Das, 6-Agartala Sudip Roy Braman, 8-Town Bordowali Asish Kumar Saha, 9-Banamalipur Gopal Roy, 10 Majlishpur Keshav Sarkar, 14-Badharghat(SC) Raj Kumar Sarkar, 18-Suryamaninagar Sushanta Chakraborty, 19-Charilamn(ST) Ashok Debbarma, 28-Teliamura Ashok Kumar Baidya, 31-Radhakishorepur Titan Pal, 32-Matabari Pranajit Roy, 45-Kamalpur Rubi Gope, 48-Karamcahara(ST) Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl, 50-Pabiachara(SC) Satyaban Das, 53-Kailasahar Birajit Sinha, 56-Dharmanagar Chayan Bhattacharjee.
Notable among the list includes lone Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman to contest from 6-Agartala Assembly constituency the land from where he won for 5 consecutive term, the last term as a BJP candidate.
Later, as he resigned from the party, Barman joined the Congress and fought the By-election in the 2022 and again secured his seat as an MLA.
Besides, Asish Kumar Saha, the MLA who resigned from BJP and lost to Dr Manik Saha in the by-elections 2022 is once again going to contest the ensuing Tripura polls against chief minister Dr Manik Saha in the 8-Town Bordowali assembly constituency.
Besides, TPCC president Brijit Sinha is going to contest from Kailasahar where he lost in the year 2018 assembly polls.
