Santirbazar/ Dharmanagar Feb 02: Two dissenting activists of BJP, who filed nominations as Independent candidates for the ensuing assembly polls, withdrew their nomination papers for 38-Jolaibari Assembly constituency on Thursday. Another disgruntled BJP leader who submitted nominations as an Independent candidate for 57-Jubarjanagar Assembly constituency also pulled out his candidature.
“Obeying the decision of BJP leadership and paying respect to the spirit of the alliance with IPFT, the dissented BJP activists who filed their nominations as Independent candidates pulled themselves out of the fray on the last day of nomination withdrawal”, local BJP leaders of Jolaibari said.
Resentment erupted among the BJP activists after38-Jolaibari seat was given to BJP’s ally IPFT and Sukla Charan Noatia filed nomination as the candidate of the BJP-IPFT alliance. Frustrated at the decision, Bikash Reang and Sadhu Mog of BJP filed nominations, however, party leadership convinced them and accordingly both Bikash Reang and Sadhu Mog agreed to withdraw their nominations as well as fight for the victory of the alliance candidate.
After the nomination withdrawal, four candidates of BJP, Tipra Motha, CPM and Trinamool Congress - remain in the fray in Jolaibari Assembly Constituency. In the 2018 Assembly polls, CPM’s Jasbir Tripura won this seat. Party replaced Jashbir and fielded a new candidate in his place.
With internal squabble addressed, BJP-IPFT activists are set to hit campaign trails to ensure the victory of the alliance candidate, said Sadhu Mog.
In Jubarajnagar, Kanti Gopal Nath vented anger for nominating Malina Debnath as a BJP candidate and subsequently he submitted a nomination as an Independent candidate. Later, State level party leaders intervened and persuaded him to withdraw his nominations and he obliged. Kanti Gopal Nath appealed to all to support BJP's candidate.
With his withdrawal from the fray, Jubarajnagar will witness a direct fight between Malina Debnath and Sailendra Chandra Nath of CPM. In June 2022 by-polls, Malina Debnath defeated Sailendra Chandra Nath in Jubarajnagar.
