New Delhi, Mar 14: The charges of post-poll violence in Tripura had an echo in the Rajya Sabha when some opposition members sought a discussion, but the Chair rejected their plea.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected notices under Rule 267 demanding discussions on the post-poll violence in Tripura.
Rule 267 calls for suspension of the day's business to take up an issue being mentioned in the notice.
Dhankhar rejected the notices saying the issues "are the ones that can be agitated (for) by other means".
Left parties hit out at the ruling BJP in Tripura over post-poll violence in the state, accusing its supporters of ransacking and burning down houses of workers of the opposition parties and demolishing their party offices.
The Congress has alleged that a delegation of its leaders was attacked by BJP activists in Tripura's Bishalgarh and Mohanpur. The opposition party further claimed that police personnel accompanying the team did "nothing".
Meanwhile, Congress members, including Pramod Tiwari, KC Venugopal, Kumar Ketkar and Amee Yajnik sought to discuss the government's failure to constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate the charges of fraud, corruption and financial mismanagement by Adani Group of companies.
Dhankhar also rejected notices by the BRS' K Kesava Rao and the AAP's Sanjay Singh to discuss the Hindenburg report on Adani Enterprises and other group companies, and prohibition of online gambling and regulation of online games in Tamil Nadu.
