Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Friday said that the Unity Promo Fest is not just a cultural celebration but a platform to spread the message of peace, harmony, and unity among people of all communities.
Inaugurating the Unity Promo Fest – 2025 and the newly developed Shishu Udyan at Narkelkunja in Dhalai district, Dr. Saha said the state government has been giving special emphasis to the growth of the tourism sector to boost Tripura’s overall economic prosperity.
“The Unity Promo Fest is not only a cultural event but a message of peace, harmony, and unity. I am happy to know that this year the festival is being organised for two days instead of one, as per public demand. The Tourism Department has taken the right decision at the right time,” Dr. Saha said.
He said Tripura is home to about 19 ethnic communities, and people from diverse castes, tribes, and backgrounds coexist peacefully, reflecting the state’s spirit of unity in diversity.
Highlighting the government’s initiative to promote tourism, the Chief Minister said mega events are being organised at six locations across the state to attract visitors and create livelihood opportunities for local people. “This journey began from Narkelkunja today. Many people in Tripura are still unaware of the state’s own tourist destinations. We must first know our state better to make it economically self-reliant,” he added.
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who also attended the event, said the state government under Dr. Saha’s leadership is committed to transforming Tripura into a major tourism hub in the Northeast.
“The previous government declared tourism as an industry but never initiated any efforts to give it a shape. On several instances, they returned central funds which had been allocated for tourism development,” said the Minister.
Among others present at the programme were Dhalai District President Sushmita Das, MLAs Ranjit Das, Nandita Riang, and Sanjay Manik Tripura, Dambur Nagar RD Block Chairman Prem Sadhan Tripura, Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Dhalai District Magistrate Vivek H. B., Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das, and Tourism Director Prashant Badal Negi.
