
State Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma has formally forwarded a proposal titled “Drone Pilot Training Project for Tribal Youths” to Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, seeking support for what he described as a transformative initiative for the state’s tribal community.

With nearly 32 percent of Tripura’s population belonging to tribal communities, agriculture remains their primary livelihood. However, more than 75 percent of tribal farmers still rely on traditional, labour-intensive methods, resulting in low yields and limited income opportunities.

The proposed project aims to introduce Drone Technology into agriculture, training tribal youths and women to become: Certified Drone Pilots and Providers of Drone-based spraying and survey services.

According to the proposal, structured training will enable beneficiaries to earn up to Rs 1 lakh per month, creating a sustainable, technology-driven livelihood system in Tripura’s hills and remote regions.

Minister Debbarma emphasized that the initiative is not just a skill development programme but a bridge to self-reliance and dignity. “This project will usher in a new era of agricultural transformation. It will empower tribal youths to stand as contributors to India’s tech-enabled farming future,” he said.

Minister Debbarma strongly recommended the initiative for favourable consideration by the Union Ministry, stressing its potential to bring profound socio-economic impact and reshape the future of tribal agriculture in Tripura.
