Tripura University has earned global recognition through the achievements of Dr. Farhana Yasmin Rahman, a former doctoral researcher from the Department of Physics, who has been awarded a German patent for her pioneering work on eco‑friendly electronic memory devices and has also secured a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship in Japan.
Â
Dr. Rahman carried out her doctoral research at the university’s Thinfilms Nanoscience Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Syed Arshad Hussain.Â
Â
Her innovative study demonstrated that extracts from locally available plants such as lotus, rose, and sajna (drumstick) can be used to fabricate low‑cost, sustainable electronic memory devices. These devices, designed to complement future silicon‑based technologies, represent a breakthrough in the field of green electronics.
Â
The German patent marks a milestone for Tripura University, bringing international recognition to its research ecosystem and highlighting the contributions of the Thinfilms Nanoscience Laboratory in advancing sustainable materials science.
Â
Adding to this achievement, Dr. Rahman has been selected as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan.Â
Â
She will join the Ionic Device Group, where her research will focus on transistor‑based neuromorphic devices — cutting‑edge systems designed to emulate the functioning of the human brain and expected to play a vital role in next‑generation computing technologies.
Â
Tripura University officials said Dr. Rahman’s accomplishments reflect the growing international impact of the institution’s research and underscore its commitment to promoting innovation rooted in indigenous resources.Â
Â
The success also demonstrates how sustainable approaches can open new avenues in advanced electronic technologies, positioning Tripura University as a rising contributor to global scientific progress.
