With just hours to go before the long‑awaited Village Committee elections in Tripura, polling staff on Sunday morning began their journey to designated centres across the state.
The atmosphere in Ambassa RD Block reflected both anticipation and urgency, as officials moved under strict security arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
This election carries special significance, being held after a gap of ten years. The use of ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines has added a new dimension, particularly for first‑time voters in ADC areas, who will experience the traditional method of casting their vote for the first time.
In Ambassa RD Block alone, 41 polling stations have been set up. From 8 a.m. onwards, polling personnel departed from dispatch centres under the watch of security forces. Authorities emphasised punctuality, ensuring that staff reached their destinations on time and completed all preparatory tasks before polling begins.
Returning Officer and BDO Barnita Biswas told reporters that the administration is determined to prevent any untoward incidents. She stressed that arrangements have been made to guarantee polling staff reach their centres safely and that the process unfolds peacefully. Biswas appealed to voters to exercise their democratic rights without fear and to maintain a calm environment throughout the day.
The run‑up to the polls has seen heightened political and administrative activity across ADC areas, with all eyes now on whether voting can be conducted without disruption. For many, tomorrow’s election is not just a routine exercise but a symbolic restoration of grassroots democracy after a decade‑long pause.
