Tripura has carved out a distinct place on the national stage by demonstrating how Self-Help Groups (SHGs) can transform rural livelihoods and empower women through structured training and financial inclusion.
Â
The latest National Annual Report highlights Tripura’s remarkable achievement of an 85 percent livelihood settlement rate, ranking the state among the top three performers in India. This figure reflects the success of the Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) in enabling SHG members to move beyond training into sustainable income-generating ventures. Women across the state are increasingly venturing into entrepreneurship in areas such as agriculture, tailoring, food processing, and small-scale enterprises, creating a ripple effect of economic resilience in rural communities.
Â
Equally significant is Tripura’s progress in financial inclusion. With a 54 percent credit linkage rate, the state has secured the fifth position nationally, ensuring that SHG members gain access to institutional finance. This access has allowed women to expand their businesses, invest in new opportunities, and strengthen household economic stability.
Â
Officials attribute this success to a synergistic approach—combining grassroots participation, institutional support, and targeted training programs. Development experts suggest that Tripura’s model could serve as a blueprint for other states, showcasing how structured interventions can accelerate rural development and women’s empowerment.
Â
Beyond statistics, the achievement underscores the growing role of SHGs as a pillar of inclusive growth, reshaping the socio-economic landscape of Tripura.
