Tripura showcases Water Management Vision at National Summit in Delhi

Tripura has placed its commitment to water conservation and safe drinking water firmly on the national stage, with Minister of Higher Education, Panchayat & General Administration (Political) Kishore Barman representing the state at the two‑day Departmental Summit on Water organised by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan, New Delhi.

The summit, chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, brought together ministers, secretaries, and senior officials from across the country to deliberate on pressing issues of sustainable water management, revival of water bodies, and the effective implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.

In his address, Minister Barman highlighted Tripura’s experiences in managing water resources, its achievements in extending safe drinking water to households, and the challenges faced in ensuring sustainability. 

He stressed that every citizen must have access to reliable drinking water, while also underlining the importance of conserving water resources for future generations.

Barman pointed out that Tripura is committed to learning from the best practices adopted by other states, integrating them into its own framework to strengthen water management and expand safe water supply. 

He emphasised that collective responsibility is key to protecting water resources, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Har Ghar Jal” initiative serves as a guiding vision for building a water‑secure and prosperous India.

The summit also facilitated detailed exchanges between states on innovative approaches to water conservation, community participation, and technological solutions. Delegates agreed that coordinated efforts between the Centre and states are vital to meet future challenges in water security.

Speaking to the media after the session, Minister Barman reiterated Tripura’s pledge to continue working towards safe drinking water for all, while strengthening conservation measures. 

“Water is life, and safeguarding it is our shared responsibility. Tripura stands committed to contributing to a water‑secure, developed India,” he said.
