Gandacherra (Tripura), Jul 24, 2022, TRIPURATIMES Desk
Nikhil Chakraborty of Nikhil Sarkar Para in Gandacherra of Tripura had been kidnapped by the extremists in 2000.
His family kept waiting for long 22 years with a hope that the kidnapped man would return safe someday. But, the hope didn’t bring any result to Chakraborty’s family.
Finally, Rubel Chakraborty, the lone son of the kidnapped man, performed Shradh as per the Hindu rituals on Sunday.
According to social activist Nirmal Sarkar, Nikhil Chakraborty among four persons had been abducted by the extremists from a place near Raima bridge, some 20-km away from his home, in the year 2000.
He said, the families of the four kidnapped persons had given ransom of Rs. 5 lakh each as demanded by the extremists but the hostages were not released.
Chakraborty’s family gave up hope on Thursday last and performed the last rites while Rubel performed the Shradh on Sunday, 22 years after the kidnapping. A deep pall of gloom descanted over the entire village following the incident.
