Tripura Students return after celebrating Raksha Bandhan with President Murmu

Four young students from Tripura returned home on Tuesday with unforgettable memories after participating in the Raksha Bandhan celebrations at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where they tied rakhis on the wrist of President Droupadi Murmu and showcased the state’s rich cultural heritage.

Arriving at Agartala Railway Station, the children — Meheresia Sarkar, Pratik Sarkar, Riki Deb, and Amit Kumar Sarkar of Netaji Nagar English Medium SB School in West Tripura — shared their experiences with the media. They described the visit as a “once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity” and expressed pride in representing Tripura before the nation’s highest office.

The students had travelled to New Delhi under the leadership of Abhijit Samajpati, OSD of the School Education Department, accompanied by teachers Biswajit Bhowmik and Biplab Deb. At Rashtrapati Bhavan, they tied handmade rakhis on the President’s wrist, presented greeting cards crafted by themselves, and offered gifts symbolising Tripura’s traditions — a special souvenir from the Mata Tripureshwari Temple and the state’s traditional risha cloth.

President Murmu warmly received the children, making the occasion deeply emotional. The students said they felt honoured to share Raksha Bandhan with the President while also presenting Tripura’s culture and values. “We were proud to show the traditions of our state and celebrate Raksha Bandhan with the President. It was a moment we will never forget,” one of them told reporters.

The visit marked the first time these students had travelled outside Tripura, and their participation in the national celebration has been hailed as a matter of pride for the state. The event not only highlighted the values of love, harmony, and unity associated with Raksha Bandhan but also gave Tripura’s children a platform to present their heritage at the national level.
