
The state of Tripura is set to roll out the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0, a flagship skill development programme aimed at empowering rural and tribal youths with training and employment opportunities.

On Monday, a crucial meeting was held in the conference hall of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) headquarters under the chairmanship of CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, with all stakeholders present. The meeting finalized plans for the scheme’s implementation in the state.

Under DDU-GKY 2.0, Rs 9 crore will be utilized for the training and placement of candidates across Tripura. The initiative is expected to create structured pathways for rural youths to acquire modern skills, secure jobs, and contribute to the state’s socio-economic growth.

Notably, the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is a centrally sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. It focuses on skill development and wage employment for rural poor youth, particularly those aged 15–35 years.

The programme provides industry-relevant training in diverse sectors such as retail, hospitality, healthcare, construction, IT, and agriculture.
It also ensures placement-linked training, meaning candidates are not only trained but also supported in finding jobs.

Besides, DDU-GKY is part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), aligning with the vision of inclusive growth and poverty reduction.

The launch of second phase in Tripura is expected to: Equip rural and tribal youths with employable skills; Enhance job opportunities in both local and national markets, Reduce dependence on traditional, low-income livelihoods and also strengthen Tripura’s workforce participation in modern industries.

Officials emphasized that the scheme will be implemented with strict monitoring to ensure quality training and meaningful placements.Â
