Tripura to win hearts with ‘Pineapple’: Agri Minister

Agartala May 17: With the ongoing season of GI-tagged “Queen” pineapples, the state agriculture department under Minister Ratan Lal Nath is all set to popularize the unique and demanding fruit at a global scale.
Answering the reporters in this context, Minister Ratan Lal Nath said, “It is a matter of pride for all that the ‘Queen’ pineapple of Tripura is a GI-designated fruit, a kind that grows no where else in the entire country”.
To further popularize the states mouth-watering fruit, an initiative has been taken to display the same at Delhi Haat Mela (Fair). For this a team of the concerned department has already reached Delhi along with the pineapples, he informed.
Mentioning that promotion of the demanding fruit will add to the economic growth of the state as well as develop the livelihood of the farmers, Nath said, “Union Minister of Agriculture, Narendra Singh Tomar will remain present in the launching ceremony that will be held on Thursday next in the national capital”.
He added that for past two months, promotion of the fruit is already going on in various shopping malls and other places in Delhi.
The state agriculture minister also informed that with adequate help from the central government steps will be taken to increase the productivity of pineapple in the state and also export it to other countries.
