Tripura: Traffic Police crack down on unauthorized Truck loading in MG Bazar to ease congestion

tripura traffic police crack down on unauthorized truck loading in mg bazar to ease congestion

In a decisive move to restore order in one of Agartala’s busiest commercial hubs, the Traffic Department launched a special drive on Saturday at Maharajganj Market, targeting goods-laden trucks accused of loading and unloading outside designated hours.

Maharajganj Market, the beating heart of the city’s trade, witnesses a daily influx of hundreds of vehicles—ranging from small passenger cars to heavy trucks. Complaints had been mounting that goods carriers were halting on the main road during peak hours, unloading consignments in violation of prescribed timings. The result was chaos: traffic snarls, frustrated commuters, and disruption of normal vehicular flow.

Responding to public grievances, traffic police swung into action. During the operation, officers closely monitored the movement of trucks, warning operators and traders to strictly adhere to the scheduled loading and unloading hours. Clear instructions were issued that any activity causing congestion in the city’s busiest stretches would not be tolerated.

Officials emphasized that the campaign was not a one-off measure. “This is a warning and a commitment. We will continue such drives to ensure smooth traffic movement in Maharajganj and other crowded areas,” a traffic department spokesperson said.

Local residents reported immediate relief, noting that the crackdown brought temporary respite from the gridlock that has become routine in the market zone. Traders too acknowledged the need for discipline, though some sought more designated spaces for logistics operations.

The Maharajganj Market traffic drive is part of a broader initiative to regulate urban congestion in Agartala. Authorities have reiterated that maintaining order in commercial hubs is essential not only for commuters but also for sustaining the city’s economic rhythm.
