In a decisive move to curb noise pollution and ensure public safety, the Tripura Traffic Police destroyed 410 modified bike silencers on Sunday near MBB College in Agartala, following a directive from the Court.
Â
The operation was led by Traffic SP Kanta Jahangir and forms part of the department’s ongoing special drives aimed at maintaining traffic discipline across the state.
Â
Speaking to the reporters, SP Jahangir stated that modified silencers pose serious health risks and contribute to excessive noise pollution, disturbing pedestrians and fellow commuters alike.
Â
Addressing the youth, SP Jahangir warned that using such silencers could lead to vehicle seizure and fines up to Rs 10,000 under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Repeat offenders may even face imprisonment, she said.
Â
The drive underscores Tripura’s commitment to enforcing road safety norms and protecting public well-being.
