In a strong appeal to the Centre, State Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has urged the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to introduce direct flight services between Agartala and Mumbai, underscoring the urgent need for improved air connectivity between the northeastern state and India’s financial capital.
Â
In a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Chowdhury reiterated his earlier request and emphasized that Tripura, given its strategic importance in the Northeast, requires stronger links with major metropolitan hubs.Â
Â
He highlighted Mumbai’s role as a vital destination for trade, healthcare, higher education, tourism, and employment, making it indispensable for thousands of residents who frequently travel there.
Â
Currently, passengers from Tripura must rely on connecting flights with long transit hours, causing inconvenience and higher costs for students, patients, businesspersons, and government officials.Â
Â
Chowdhury stressed that a direct Agartala–Mumbai flight would not only ease travel but also accelerate socio-economic growth, strengthen regional integration, and enhance opportunities for investment and tourism.
Â
The minister urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to either launch direct services or ensure seamless connectivity through improved scheduling under existing policy frameworks.Â
Â
His appeal comes at a time when northeastern states are collectively pressing for stronger air links with India’s major cities to drive economic activity and attract investment.
Â
Local stakeholders have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the Centre will act swiftly to bridge this critical gap in connectivity and help Tripura position itself as a more accessible and dynamic state.
