Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister inaugurates new Train stoppages at Mungiakami, boosting regional connectivity

A historic moment unfolded on Monday night at Mungiakami Railway Station as Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma formally flagged off two express trains, fulfilling a long-standing demand of residents in Mungiakami and adjoining areas. 

The inclusion of regular stoppages for the Agartala–Narangi Express (15649/15650) and the Agartala–Khongsang Express (15637/15638) marks a significant milestone in improving connectivity for the region.

The inauguration ceremony, held around 9:30 pm, was attended by Minister Debbarma, MDC Utpal Debbarma, Area Manager of Badarpur Section Birendra Kumar Meena, railway officials, and distinguished guests. With the waving of the green flag, the long-cherished aspiration of local commuters finally became reality, sparking celebrations across the area.

Speaking at the event, Minister Debbarma emphasized that the new stoppages will directly benefit students, office-goers, patients, traders, and daily passengers by reducing travel time and costs. 

He noted that residents will no longer need to travel to distant stations to catch important trains, easing long-standing hardships. “Development becomes meaningful only when its benefits touch the lives of ordinary people in remote areas,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure and public welfare initiatives.

Debbarma also expressed gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Northeast Frontier Railway authorities for their cooperation in making this possible. He assured that efforts will continue to further expand railway services in the interest of regional development.

Local residents hailed the decision as a turning point for Mungiakami, describing it as the beginning of a new chapter in connectivity. They believe the stoppages will not only ease travel but also boost opportunities in education, healthcare, tourism, and trade, strengthening the rural economy and improving quality of life.

For the people of Mungiakami, Monday night was more than just the inauguration of a train stoppage — it was the dawn of a new era of development and accessibility.
