Agartala’s Jagannath Bari Road was the focus of attention on Monday when Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma made a surprise inspection of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Girls’ Hostel following allegations of irregularities in food supplies.

The minister spoke directly with resident students to hear their grievances and also sought detailed information from the hostel authorities.

Debbarma instructed the administration to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into every aspect of the complaint and to take swift corrective measures.

Stressing that no negligence or malpractice will be tolerated when it comes to students’ rights, safety and welfare, he warned that if the allegations are proven, strict action will be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law.

Later in the day, the minister extended his inspection to Bodhjung ST Boys’ Hostel and the Women’s College ST Girls’ Hostel in Agartala.

He reviewed the living environment, infrastructure, daily management and facilities available to students. Debbarma noted that areas requiring improvement would be prioritized to ensure a safer, more dignified and supportive residential atmosphere for young learners.

Speaking to officials, he underlined that a responsible government views every positive step taken for students’ welfare as an investment in building a skilled, confident and prosperous society for the future.

His remarks reinforced the administration’s commitment to strengthening hostel infrastructure and safeguarding the well‑being of students across the state.
