Agartala: Aug 07. Tripura University has established Tripura University Business Incubator (TUBI) to make the campus plastic free with funding support from the Ministry of MSME.
As per sources Tripura University Business Incubator (TUBI) was established in 2021 with funding support from the Ministry of MSME, GOI. Two ideas received collective funding support of Rs. 26 lacs from the Ministry of MSME and another Rs. 4 lacs from the AICTE, New Delhi.
TUBI has taken the initiative to make the campus plastic free. As a part of the initiative, each university department is encouraged to use glass-bottled water manufactured in the TUBI.
In this way, the incubator has started earning revenue and providing employment to two moderately-skilled resources.
Further, as a social outreach initiative, a delegation of the TU visited the flood-affected areas of Silchar and Karimganj, Assam, and served them pure water through a portable water purifier made in the incubator.
Additionally, fine ramie fibers are being made from the China grass with bio-fertilizers made using microbial elements to make environment-friendly, all-weather fabric for the textile industry.
The source from TU said that few companies have shown interest in buying their technology for commercial production.
“Very soon, the TUBI will form a company under section 8 of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, which will be the first start-up of the university. The Ministry officials have shown satisfaction with the progress of the TUBI and invited us to apply for further funding of Rs. 1 crore for capacity building. The TUBI is committed to changing the state's incubation landscape, where more and more young innovators are encouraged to submit their brilliant ideas for the state's welfare”, the source added.
