Around 105 members of the Tripura University, including teachers, non-teaching employees and students, donated blood at a voluntary blood donation camp organised at the MBB Auditorium on Wednesday, ahead of the university’s 40th Foundation Day on October 2.
The camp was organised as part of a series of programmes being held in connection with the Foundation Day celebrations, with the initiative aimed at promoting voluntary blood donation and awareness about social responsibility among members of the university community.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Tripura University Registrar Prof Samir Kumar Sil and Finance Officer Dr Debasis Pal.
Teachers, non-teaching employees and students participated in the camp. Organisers said the participation of members from different sections of the university reflected their willingness to contribute to a voluntary public-service initiative.
The organisers said donated blood can support patients requiring transfusions during emergencies, surgeries and other medical conditions. The camp was also intended to encourage students to understand the importance of community service alongside their academic responsibilities.
The blood donation programme was part of a broader series of academic, social, environmental and institutional activities being organised ahead of the Foundation Day.
Tripura University was established as a State University in 1987 and was subsequently converted into a Central University in 2007. The university is scheduled to observe its 40th Foundation Day on October 2.
The Foundation Day programmes are being organised with the participation of various sections of the campus community. Alongside academic and institutional activities, the university has included social and community-oriented initiatives in the celebrations.
The organisers said involving students and employees in voluntary blood donation was intended to strengthen awareness about community service and encourage young people to participate in initiatives with a direct social impact.
The participation of around 105 donors brought together students, faculty members and non-teaching employees for an activity aimed at supporting people requiring blood.
The university has been conducting a range of programmes as part of the build-up to the Foundation Day, covering academic, institutional and community-oriented activities.
Among the others Prof. Sukhendeu Debbarma, Prof. Prasanta Das and Dr. Krishnendu Dhar were also present.
