Tripura VC polls announced: Polling on Sept 28, counting on Oct 5

The State Election Commission on Monday announced the schedule for the upcoming Village Committee elections.

According to the schedule announced by the State Election Commission, the official notification for the election will be issued on September, marking the beginning of the formal electoral process.

As per the schedule, the last date for filing nomination papers is September 8 (Tuesday). Nominations will be accepted from 11 am to 3 pm on that day, said State Election Commissioner Dr. P. K. Chakraborty.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on September 9 (Wednesday). Candidates seeking to withdraw from the electoral contest will be allowed to do so until 3 pm on September 11 (Friday).

Polling will be held on September 28, 2026 (Monday). Voters will be able to cast their votes from 7 am to 4 pm.

Re-polling, if required at any polling station, will be conducted on October 3 (Saturday).

The counting of votes will take place on October 5, 2026 (Monday), following which the election results and names of the winning candidates will be declared.

With the process now set to move from nomination filing to polling and counting, attention will remain focused on the Election Commission, candidates and voters in the coming weeks.

According to a press release, proper security arrangements and preventive measures will be put in place well in advance to ensure a conducive environment and instill confidence among the electors as well as candidates for free, fair and peaceful poll. 

With this end in view, the Commission held meetings with the Police Administration and reviewed the maintenance of Law and Order including the security arrangements to be made during the poll. 

Adequate security arrangements will be made as assured by the police for smooth and peaceful conduct of the General Election to the Village Committees in the State.

Chakraborty said, taking into consideration all relevant factors like Board examination, major festivals, prevailing law and order situation etc., the State Election Commission of Tripura has decided the schedule for holding General Elections to TTAAD Village Committees, 2026.

According to the final voter list published on June 15 last, a total of 9,61,978 voters have been enrolled across Village Committees in the state. 

Among them, 4,79,930 are female voters, 4,82,041 are male voters, and 6 voters belong to the third gender category.

Elections will be held in 587 Village Committees covering 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats across 52 of the state’s 58 blocks. There will be 1,550 polling stations. 

The Commissioner said the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in the Village Committee areas from today. Voting will be conducted through ballot papers. 

The last Village Committee elections were held in 2016. The tenure of the elected committees ended on March 8, 2021, but elections could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent legal complications. DGP G.S. Rao said adequate security arrangements are being made for peaceful polling.
