Polling for the General Election to the Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is underway across the state, with voters from remote and far-flung areas turning up at polling stations to exercise their franchise.
The State Election Commission has made extensive security arrangements across the state to ensure peaceful polling.
Despite geographical challenges and difficult terrain in several parts of the TTAADC areas, voters are coming forward to participate in the democratic exercise.
From remote habitations to more accessible polling locations, voters are making their way to polling stations to cast their votes and take part in choosing representatives for their local Village Committees.
The State Election Commission has appealed to voters to participate in the election peacefully and without fear.
The election is being held for 2,950 seats across 587 Village Committees, with around 6.65 lakh voters eligible to cast their ballots.
A total of 8,176 candidates are contesting the seats going to polls, while 1,644 seats have already been filled unopposed. No nominations were received for three seats.
According to SEC, 74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), along with 8,977 personnel from the state police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR), have been deployed. Around 1,500 security officers have also been assigned to monitor the law-and-order situation, with additional security arrangements at sensitive polling stations.
