
Tripura has made a mark on the national stage by clinching three major honours at the National Panchayat Awards 2025, underscoring the state’s growing leadership in grassroots governance and inclusive rural development.

The spotlight fell on Sepahijala District Panchayat, which was declared the Best District Panchayat in India under the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. Recognized for its outstanding performance in implementing Sustainable Development Goals at the local level, Sepahijala secured the top rank nationwide and received a financial incentive of Rs 5 crore.

Equally noteworthy was the achievement of Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat in Unakoti district, which earned the title of Best Healthy Panchayat under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. Its pioneering healthcare initiatives and grassroots interventions won it the first position nationally, along with a cash award of Rs 1 crore.

Adding to the accolades, Baikunthapur Gram Panchayat in West Tripura district secured third place nationally in the Women-Friendly Panchayat category. Honoured for its efforts in women empowerment and gender-sensitive governance, the Panchayat received a financial incentive of Rs 50 lakh.

Officials hailed the triple win as a milestone for Tripura, reflecting the state’s commitment to inclusive rural administration and sustainable development.Â

The recognition is expected to inspire other Panchayats across the state to strengthen grassroots institutions, improve service delivery, and adopt innovative practices.
