The Tripura Women’s Commission, in collaboration with the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the District Administration, organized the “Tere Mere Sapne” campaign at the West Tripura DM & Collector’s Office on Saturday. The program functioned as a Pre-Marital Communication Centre (PMCC), aimed at providing counseling and guidance to couples before marriage.
Â
Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, and other officials were present at the event. Speaking to reporters, Debbarma said, “Usually after one or two years of marriage, couples approach us with issues that are mostly related to adjustment. To avoid such situations and to make couples aware of post-marriage responsibilities for a happy life, we are conducting this program.”
Â
Launched on International Women’s Day in March 2025 by the NCW, “Tere Mere Sapne” is a nationwide campaign to establish Pre-Marital Communication Centres across India. These centers aim to: Strengthen marriages and reduce family breakdowns; help couples understand expectations and responsibilities before marriage and provide counseling on communication, conflict resolution, and emotional intelligence.
Â
The centers are often set up near marriage registration offices and have already been launched in several states. With technical support from IIT Madras, the initiative also incorporates AI-driven modules to enhance counseling.
Â
Officials noted that the program in Tripura marks an important step in expanding the reach of the campaign, ensuring that couples in the state receive guidance to build stronger, healthier relationships.
Â
The Women’s Commission emphasized that such initiatives will not only reduce marital conflicts but also promote social harmony by preparing couples for the challenges of married life.
