Tripura’s rich tradition of handicrafts has found a proud platform in southern India, with two women Self‑Help Group (SHG) members from Poangbari BMMU, South Tripura representing the state at the Karnataka Saras Fair 2026, being held from September 9 to 27. Their participation marks a significant step in taking the artistry and entrepreneurial spirit of Tripura’s women to a wider national audience.

The fair, organised in Karnataka, is one of the country’s leading exhibitions for rural products and crafts, bringing together artisans and entrepreneurs from across India. The Tripura representatives are showcasing a range of handcrafted items that reflect the state’s cultural heritage, skill, and innovation, offering visitors a glimpse into the creativity nurtured within SHGs.

Officials from the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) said the participation of SHG members in such national‑level fairs is part of a broader effort to expand market linkages and provide women artisans with exposure beyond local boundaries. By engaging directly with customers and buyers in Karnataka, the SHG members are not only promoting Tripura’s handicrafts but also building confidence as entrepreneurs.

The initiative is expected to open new opportunities for women artisans, helping them access larger markets and strengthen their livelihoods. It also highlights the role of SHGs in driving grassroots entrepreneurship and contributing to the vision of self‑reliant communities.

Visitors at the fair have responded positively to Tripura’s stall, appreciating the craftsmanship and uniqueness of the products. Organisers noted that such participation enhances cultural exchange and strengthens the identity of regional crafts in the national marketplace.
