Jatrapur police in Tripura's Sepahijala district successfully traced and rescued a missing housewife from a hotel in Rajarhat, West Bengal, and reunited her with her family in the state.
According to police sources, Parmita Bhowmik (Majumdar), wife of Prasenjit Majumdar and a resident of Nirbhaypur, a border village under Jatrapur police station in Sepahijala district, had left her home on May 23 along with her child. Her family had been searching for her since then.
Using modern investigative techniques, including mobile phone tracking, CCTV footage analysis, and social media monitoring, police were able to determine that the woman was staying at a hotel in Rajarhat on the outskirts of Kolkata.
Acting swiftly on the information, a team from Jatrapur police station, accompanied by the woman's husband and mother-in-law, travelled to Rajarhat to locate her. Upon reaching the hotel, they found the woman there and successfully brought her back to Tripura on Monday.
The rescue operation has brought relief to residents of Nirbhaypur.
Speaking on the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Jatrapur police station, Partha Nath Bhowmik, said that after receiving credible information about the woman's location, a team led by Sub-Inspector Bijoy Chakraborty immediately left for Rajarhat along with her husband and mother-in-law. The team completed the operation and returned safely with the woman and her child.
The police officer said the circumstances that led the woman to leave home are still being examined.
Meanwhile, police have instructed the family members not to subject the woman to any form of physical or mental harassment after her return, noting that she may have left home due to circumstances that need to be understood sensitively.
