Tripura’s Asmita Dey shines in International Judo Competition, wins bronze

Adding a feather to the cap of Tripura’s sports arena, 19-year-old Asmita Dey has secured a bronze medal in an international Judo competition on Tuesday.
Asmita among the judokas from other Asian countries including China, Japan and Korea participated in junior male and female categories in the Asian Cadet and Junior Judo Competition-2022 is being held in the capital city of Thailand from July 18.
This is for the first time that any Judoka from Tripura has won a medal in an international event while representing the country. She has clinched the medal in the 48-kg junior women's category in the third bout by defeating the world's best judokas from China, Japan, Korea and Malaysia.
Recently, Asmita had won gold on behalf of Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal University in the 48-kg category at national-level Khelo India Judo competition.
She is a former meritorious student of Tripura Sports School. Asmita's first guru in sports was Bina Debnath of Belonia Vidyapeeth Coaching Center and then she was trained by Judo coach Manik Lal Dev of Tripura Sports School.
She had moved to Bhopal for advanced training in Khelo India project in 2018. Asmita is the proud daughter of Arjun Kumar Dey of College Square area at Satmura in Belonia of South Tripura district.
Asmita has now set her goal to win a medal at the 33rd Paris Olympics to be held in the French capital in 2024.
