TRLM empowering rural SHG Didis through institutional support, credit access

The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) is emerging as a catalyst for empowering women-led entrepreneurship across the state, helping them achieve financial independence through institutional support, skill development, and access to credit.

Two inspiring success stories from North Tripura and Sepahijala districts highlight how government-backed livelihood initiatives are enabling women to build sustainable enterprises while creating employment opportunities for others.

Swarnali Paul, a member of Perona Self Help Group (SHG) under the Jubarajnagar Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU) in North Tripura, has transformed her livelihood with the support of TRLM. Engaged in fabrication, interior printing, and mattress business, she expanded her business through financial assistance provided under the mission.

She received Rs. 9.95 lakh through Community-Based Organisation (CBO) funding and an additional Rs. 15 lakh in bank credit, allowing to scale up her enterprise in a structured manner. Today, her business employs three women from SHGs and generates a monthly income of around Rs. 95,000 to Rs. 1 lakh, making her an example of successful rural entrepreneurship.

Another remarkable success story comes from Sepahijala district, where Bina Rani Sarkar, a member of Mangal Deep SHG under the Mohanbhog BMMU, has built a thriving bakery and confectionery business with the support from TRLM.

She received Rs. 40,000 through CBO funding and Rs. 8.98 lakh as bank credit, enabling her to expand her business significantly. Her enterprise now earns a monthly income ranging between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.5 lakh while providing employment to three fellow SHG members.

According to officials, these success stories are the shining examples of impact of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission in strengthening rural livelihoods through financial inclusion, institutional support, and entrepreneurship promotion.

By enabling women to establish and expand income-generating ventures, the mission is not only improving household incomes but also creating local employment and fostering self-reliance in rural communities across the state, an official said.
