TSF observes ‘Black Day’ against police firing

Agartala Jan 08: Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) on Sunday observed ‘Black Day’ over the incident of open firing on students during a peaceful protest over the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
According to the protestors, “The West District Police had fired bullets over the TSF agitators who were protesting in Dasharam Para village in Madhav Bari area under Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTAADC)”.
Talking to the reporters here on Sunday at Ujan Abhoynagar area of capital city, one of the protestors said, “In the year 2019, on this day while protesting peacefully against (CAB) on the North East strike, called by the North East Student’s Organisation (NESO), the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) opened fired upon the agitators injuring many with bullet wounds”.
“Even though we had the permission for the peaceful protest but the police resorted to open firing which resulted in five agitator’s injury. Even the ambulance which was taking the injured persons to GBP hospital in Agartala was vandalized and they were thrashed out of the vehicle by the police. Therefore, we are observing the 8 January as Black Day,” he said.
The agitators further mentioned that they are not happy with the government’s action over the issue.
“The government didn’t take any strict actions against the then west district superintended of police Ajit Pratap Singh and the Jirania sub-divisional magistrate, who actually instructed to fire bullets on the agitators. We are not happy with the government”, they said.
The protestors further mentioned that they will stick to their demand of scrapping CAA from North East.
